Growing up on a tobacco farm, we fixed everything ourselves. I started building and fixing stuff before I started first grade.
Later, my wife and I did our own house renovations — some minor, many major. Our grown kids and neighbors started calling us to help out. We did kitchen redos, bathroom redos, several decks, trimmed trees, installed several French drains, built my own office out of a utility room, encapsulated our basement and fixed a damp floor, built our own utility building, designed and built several garage organization systems, redid banisters with tricky angles, designed and built a rolling gate system for an odd-sized opening, unclogged drains, installed more ceiling fans than I have fingers and toes, installed gutter guards to match our tree canopy, put in new wood floors, sealed garage floors — and the list goes on and on.
